Sequins And Stones + Blog Collab

Sales have been crazy of late. The other day, I randomly walked into a Forever21 store to pick up only a couple of pairs of jeans. Then I started walking around and found myself in the sale section of the store. Then I looked up, guess what I saw? Additional 50% off all sale items! Just imagine how I felt. Automatically, like I always do in the sale sections at every store, I went to the beginning of the rack and started scanning the items from top to bottom! I ended up pulling out over 20 items of all sorts. This blouse was one of the items I picked. I'm beginning to like sequins a lot these days. I wonder how long this will last. Are you a fan of sequins?

Blouse: Forever21 | Dress worn as Skirt: H&M | Necklace: Mandee Boutique | Bangles: Suzy Shier | Belt: Urban Planet | Shoes: MakeMeChic

Total Outfit Cost: Approx. $52.

A couple of lovely Canadian Style Bloggers and I decided to to a collab on our favorite Summer trends. I'm probably the last to put up my section, but it's never too late! Check out these other blogs to see the other trends featured:

Sunset Flowers

Top: H&M | Dress worn as Skirt: H&M - Similar: Boohoo | Shoes: Ardene | Earrings, Necklace, and Vintage Clutch: Light In The Box

Fact: I rarely ever put on earrings. However, when I saw these peacock feather earrings I instantly wanted them! I love the color and pattern on them, and best of all, they're so lightweight which makes them comfortable. This gorgeous necklace I wore here, is currently out of stock, but it will be restocked soon.
I also found this gorgeous vintage clutch on Light In The Box and I fell in love with it. The delicate beading, the unique shape, and the fact that it is spacious was what caught my eye. It also come with two chains: a long one (which I'm wearing) and a shorter one. It's available in about 3 other colors, so i think I might add one more to my clutch collection. ;)

Funny Stuff: Would you believe it if I told you I'm wearing 2 dresses and 1 blouse in this outfit? Remember in the last post we talked about recycling and a lot of you agreed that there's nothing wrong with it. Well, I did some more recycling in this outfit. Instead of buying new pieces often, try mixing and matching dresses as tops or skirts with other items in your closet; this will save you loads of money and get you thinking creatively.

What do you think about wearing dresses as tops/skirts? Do you do this often? I know I do! If you'd like to see more posts like this on making your closet versatile, let me know in the comments.

I Am Beautiful

It's finally the 5th of February and the official launch of the IAB project. Yaay!

The main idea behind IAB is Empowerment, Motivation and Success. Many of us know that there are many issues concerning body image, social stratification and general emotional and psychological well-being of people. These issues have lead to too many devastating ends such as depression and death- in the form of suicide.

I would like to use this series as a way to destroy all that negativity and build up the self-confidence of our generation that is being tampered with by so many sources.

Relax and Enjoy...

1. What is your Name?

Kikelomo Omolehinwa.

2. What is your Nationality and Where do you currently live?

I'm Nigerian and I live in Accra, Ghana but school in Windsor, Canada.

3. Which age group do you belong to? 0-17, 18-25, 26-40, 40 and above.

18-25

4. Describe your personal style.

Versatile, dynamic, spontaneous and comfy

5. What makes you feel beautiful?

Happiness. I know this may seem weird, but that's it for me. I like to be happy. I'm at my optimum level when I feel happy. Being happy makes everything beautiful to me and because I feel comfortable when happy, I feel beautiful... inside out.

6. What do you think of the current issues concerning body image and race?

I think they're quite interesting. We're kinda hanging in the middle. Although, there's still the stereotyping of the female body size which leans towards being skinny, these days having a little more flesh is beginning to be encouraged. At this point, I feel like there might just be a breakthrough for ladies. I sometimes wonder why these stereotypes don't really affect the men. Even though the 'ideal' man portrayed by the media is the 'husky, bulky, muscular, tall' guy, no one ever questions the male body image or size. Even 'plus size' guys (is that what they're called?), are accepted in our society, so why is it a different case when it comes to the ladies?

Concerning race in terms of skin color, on a general level, I feel society has gotten rid of negativity with respect to that. The only issues still present are issues concerning the characteristics of the different races and ethnic groups. For example: the eye lids of most Asians. You know what I mean? If we can get rid of these issues, the world would be a much better place.

7. Do you think the media has had a negative or positive influence on these issues? Why?

I feel the media is two-faced. Again, because of the transition I spoke about earlier. Honestly, for the most part, it's been negative. The media is broad and some of the most influential parts include the social media, electronic (TV), and paper (magazines). A lot of people have become victims of eating disorders, depression, low-self esteem, suicide and many more just because of what these sources put out. They are so influential that they've become the dictators of our society. It's so sad.

8. What do you think of the current fashion industry and trends?

I'm not even sure where fashion (especially ladies's fashion) is headed.  Fashion designers and the media have managed to commercialize women's bodies so much that I'm so scared to imagine what fashion will be like in a few years. I feel that all the originality and talent in fashion design has been lost to a world that is now based on sex appeal.

9. What advice would you like to give?

Be yourself and  Stand by your values. This is the greatest and most profitable thing you can do for yourself. There is a reason why we are not photocopies of each other. Don't try to fit in because you will get lost in the crowd. Anyone who truly loves you will love you just the way you are, so don't try to change anything for anyone.

10. Share a fun fact about you.

I'm a very shy and reserved person, but I can be a chatter-box when I feel comfortable in an environment. :p

What do you guys think?
Check back next Wednesday for the next feature. More info here.

Obsessed.

I adore this jacket by ASOS made with soft cotton and wool blend. My favorite thing above it is the contrast between the color and the leather-look sleeves. Get it here.

This emerald green ASOS skirt is kind of bodycon and it has a wet-look appearance. It's also available in black- which gives it a leather look. Oh yeah, the fabric is stretch, so you don't have to worry too much about the fit. Get it here. BTW, Emerald green is one of the top anticipated color trends for 2013.

I also found this burgundy faux leather skirt that I think is really pretty and definitely trendy. Get it here.

I'm absolutely loving swing dresses at the moment and I think this green ASOS dress is so unique and gorgeous! Get it here.

Ok, I'm not sure why, but I keep coming back to these Haute Hippie draped jersey harem pants for some reason  I feel like it's not even my style but I still love it. What do you guys think? Yes or No? Get it here.

Valentine's day will be here soon! This dress could work for that special dinner, you know! I love the back and I think it's quite edgy, well for someone like me. What do you think? Get it here.

I love this two-tone no-platform sport sandal by L.A.M.B! It's just really unique and gorgeous! I does look quite painful too which reminds me of the saying 'beauty is pain'. lol. Get it here.

I feel like these Gold plated earrings are just really timeless and classic. Definitely a wardrobe staple! It looks so clean and elegant! I love it! Get it here.

I also found this black sequin clutch by Therapy which I think is just simply gorgeous  and the best part... it costs only $18! Love it! Get it here.

Finally, is this gray quilted sweater dress by ASOS with contrast inserts at the shoulders! So unique, simple, and clean! Get it here.

I had such an awesome weekend! :D It was filled with so much joy and happiness that I honestly can't explain! It all began after I attended a few hours of prayers at Church on Saturday night, and then it exploded after church on Sunday! I just cannot stop smiling! :D

"You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence." -- Acts 2:28 (NIV)

Can you believe how clear these pictures are? They were taken with my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone without flash, and with very little editing! Amazing!
**Can you guess what I was doing in the 13th picture?**

Oh, I got my hair fixed and I'm loving it! :D Thanks to Chioma of De Groei Salon! She's awesome, so if you're in the Windsor area and you want to get your hair done, you should totally holla at her!
